Poutama does Newton's Cradle

This week we are looking more closely at potential and kinetic energy. We organised a technology challenge based on this movie: We asked the children what they could see, what they think and what they wondered?

Check out this video we put together, showing some of our prototypes! It was so fun!

This week, our writing will be focusing on what's going on behind the action... What is the SCIENCE?

"Every Action has an Equal and Opposite Reaction."

  1. I can't wait to get started with the writting. It was challenging trying to make a newtons cradle. Each peace of string had to be measured exactly the same. The beads had to be at a good place so that the energy could travel through.
But it was also very fun and I enjoyed it to.

  4. It is really fun making the cradles. We had to experiment with the balls to see with ball will work.

  5. I remember doing this activity, it would have been easy to have marbles instead of beads or hollow blocks because they are so close together that when 1 is nocked against the other it wont move until the energy reachers the last marble then the energy with go back and it will start all over again and keep going.

  8. That was really hard. I was surprised that some people could actually do it. My group epic failed. Next time I think our group could make the most of our time instead of mucking around.
